The Braes

The Bothy is situated in a quiet and historic area of Skye known as The Braes on a road which ends at Loch Sligachan. It is close to working crofts with usually more sheep on the road than cars.

Many lovely beach and hill walks are readily accessible. The Bothy is situated on the eastern slopes of Ben Lee, providing pleasant hill walks right on the door step. The strange winged-shaped promontory called The Aird, which can be seen from all the rooms in the house, is within easy walking distance. At low tide the adventurous can explore deep and mysterious caves. The fascinating island of Raasay, seen beyond the Aird, can be reached by a frequent car ferry service from Sconser.

Skye's busy and attractive capital, Portree, is only 7 miles away and offers holiday makers all amenities in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Because there is little light pollution, this is a great place to get away from it all and bring your telescope! There is an ideal spot for astronomy or astophotography on the croft a couple of minutes walk from The Bothy. Of course we cannot guarantee the weather, but we can guarantee the view night or day!
